Innovation for public benefit

New ideas and technologies are vital if we are to continue raising the standards of healthcare and meeting the ever-increasing demands of today’s NHS.

Our Innovation for Patient Health (IfPB) programme addresses gaps in funding for innovation projects and encourages the uptake of innovation into clinical practice in the NHS.

This includes supporting innovative ideas that have potential to deliver important healthcare benefits, but are perceived as being of low commercial value and so unattractive to external funders.

Since 2014, ACT has granted 21 Innovation for Patient Health awards totalling £565,445 (a list can be found here).

We provide grants that offer good value for money and have potential for high impact, using a robust and transparent selection process and peer review by a specially convened Innovation for Patient Health panel (membership can be found here).

We regularly evaluate the impact of past funding in order to help prospective new applicants frame their proposals, to report to our donors who have generously given their support and to help raise funds for the future.

A summary of the first impact report for Innovation for Patient Health awards can be found here.
