Celebrating 250 years of corporate support

On Wednesday 2nd March we welcomed businesses to our Business in Action networking event celebrating the support received from the community throughout the last two-hundred and fifty years.

The patients at Addenbrooke’s have relied heavily on corporate support since the hospital opened its doors in 1766. The hospital’s archives tell us that well known household names gave gifts over 100 years ago, showing that Corporate Social Responsibility is not just a recent topic of conversation!

Businesses have demonstrated their generosity for many years and have evidently recognised the benefits of giving back to the community that they live and work in.

Julie Roy, Director of Finance and Corporate Services at ACT opened the evening with a few words about Addenbrooke’s 250 appeal.

2016 is a special year as it marks the 250th anniversary of Addenbrooke’s Hospital. To mark this momentous anniversary, ACT is launching the Addenbrooke’s 250 appeal to raise £250,000 in the year 2016. Come and find out about the way your business can get involved in this really important year.

Sue Broster and her team at the Rosie Hospital gave an eye-opening insight to our Addenbrooke’s Abroad Programme and how volunteers at CUH are supporting positive and sustainable change in healthcare in hospitals and health organisations in the developing world in places such as Botswana, El Salvador and Myanmar.

To close the evening, our newest Corporate Ambassador Eleanor Howie. Eleanor, a Solicitor at Irwin Mitchell LLP, shared her experiences as an ambassador and as a grateful patient of Addenbrooke’s.
