The well-known construction company Kier has recently embarked on an epic fundraising event called ‘The 2020 Challenge.’

Starting at the most northerly Kier site on Orkney, staff conducted a green relay route that saw them travelling between Kier offices and as many Kier construction sites as possible. The journey had to be complete within 2020 hours and finished at the most southerly site in Cornwall. The team set themselves the ambitious target of raising £200K, of which they have been successful!

The green relay came through the eastern region between 7 and 16 June, with Kier employees, sponsors and supporters using only ‘non-motorised’ forms of transport (such as running, horse-riding roller blading) to get from point to point!

With two Kier construction sites currently on The Biomedical Campus, the team passed through Addenbrooke’s on 13 June and choosing to push a Viking Boat from Project Capella to the new Abcam HQ via Francis Crick Avenue. They also visited sites such as Cambridge University, ARM and The Perse.

Kier Eastern have chosen to support D9 at Addenbrooke’s Hospital with their fundraising efforts. Other money raised from the challenge will go towards Kier’s national charity partner and other local charities that have been nominated by each of the local offices.
