Wrong Trousers Day 2007

What we've been up to

Some things we got up to in 2007:

Friends of Addenbrooke’s Summer Party

The Friends of Addenbrooke’s volunteer group held its annual summer party, at Trumpington Hall courtesy of Antony and Victoria Pemberton. The event was enjoyed by nearly 300 people and raised a fantastic £7,500 for the Department of the Medicine for the Elderly.

An Evening of Aboriginal Art

Dr Garry Derby from the University of Sydney treated us to an outstanding lecture on the history and development of aboriginal desert art. Including the sale of original work, it raised nearly £1,000 for the Friends of Addenbrooke’s general fund.

Pink Rose Dinners

Our Pink Rose Dinner campaign is a well known annual event which coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness month. People from all over Cambridge and East Anglia host dinners, lunches, and drinks parties, and ask their guests to make a donation to the Cambridge Breast Unit at Addenbrooke’s. In its first four years (2004-2007) the event raised £250,000 for the Unit.

Open Garden at Abbots Ripton Hall

The Open Gardens event for Children’s Services held at Abbots Ripton Hall, near Huntingdon, courtesy of Lord and Lady De Ramsey., made £3,000. Guests enjoyed a variety of activities, including an event by the ‘Swords of Chivalry’, a medieval tournament group.

Mayor’s Wine Tasting and Reception

Nearly 400 guests came along to the Mayor’s Wine Tasting and Reception, held at the Guild Hall in February 2007, making it the most attended event at the venue so far. Guest wine expert Jancis Robinson got things underway with a talk on ‘Classic Claret’. All the money raised, totalling £9,000, went to the Mayor’s chosen charity; the Cambridge Breast Unit at Addenbrooke’s.

Snow Fair

About 1000 people from around the region shopped 'til they dropped at The Snow Fair, a bi-annual Christmas shopping fair at Chilford Hall near Cambridge. The event, which included a gala shopping evening with carol singing, mince pies and mulled wine, was organised as part of the Snow Fair charitable group's campaign to raise in excess of £100,000 for a much needed gastroscope to be used for children across the region. This high-tech equipment is specifically designed for children and will enhance both the quality and speed of diagnosis and treatment over the existing adult equipment that is used.
