oncology

Cancer is...

  • a major health problem for our society: 1 or 3 of us will get cancer and 1 in 4 of us will die from it
  • a complex disease which is not yet fully understood, it can arise in any part of the body and may behave in a variety of different ways. Different types have different symptoms and require different types of treatment

The Oncology Centre...

  • is the focus of cancer care at Addenbrooke's providing state-of-the-art treatment to patients from Cambridge and across the whole of East Anglia
  • works closely with teams within Cambridge University to take forward research into screening, prevention and treatment

Demand for treatment is rising and there is increasing pressure on the resources available.

The Oncology Department needs extra funds to extend the Day Unit in order to treat more patients. A bigger day unit would allow a higher number of patients in order to treat more patients and to deliver the highest quality of care.

They need you to help them remain at the forefront of cancer management and make the biggest possible difference to the lives of our patients.

A Pocketbook of Rhyme
by Patricia Rivers

Patricia Rivers had never written a poem before the end of last year but has now put together A Pocketbook of Rhyme, a collection of her poems. Patricia said: “I want to make a difference – because I care.”

The book features positive thinking in simple rhyme at £5.99 per book – Patricia will donate £2 per sale to the Oncology Department at Addenbrooke's.

"I want to highlight through rhyme the effect that positive thought has on us all, in contrast to the negative thoughts we can experience.” Patricia
