A message from Charles Wilson

"I am to ride from London to Paris by bicycle from the 11 - 14 June as part of the multidisciplinary breast team to raise funds for the Cambridge Breast Cancer Research Unit. I only learned to ride a bicycle after I was appointed at Addenbrooke's.

"I am a breast oncologist and I have been privileged to be part of the multidisciplinary breast unit at Addenbrooke's for the past 15 years and see it develop into one of the finest in the country. The Cambridge Breast Unit is actively dedicated to research and this is reflected in the high recruitment of our patients into clinical trials. The opening of the new clinical research unit is a vital development to enable us to develop and deliver new treatments that will further help our patients. The funds that we raise will go toward equipment for the unit.

"On a personal side I have been inspired by my sister in law who is completing her breast cancer treatment, a journey of over six months, and it seems fitting that I should undertake this ride as she finishes hers."

A message from Elena Provenzano

"As a consultant and Lead Breast Histopathologist, my work in the Cambridge Breast Unit (CBU) is very much behind the scenes – I am one of the team that handles the breast biopsies and tells the clinicians what the diagnosis is. I am also one of the newest official members of the CBU team, although I have been living in Cambridge for two and a half years now so it was time to join the locals and get a bike!

"Participating in the London to Paris Bike Ride has been a wonderful opportunity for me to become an active member of the breast services team and raise money for the Breast Unit so we can continue to offer our patients the best care possible, whilst at the same time achieving some personal goals in terms of improving my fitness level and losing some weight. Hopefully by participating in this ride I can raise the profile of pathology too, so you know there is a caring professional behind those biopsy reports although you never get to meet us.

"I am proud to be part of the CBU London to Paris Team. Please think of us riding up and down (but mainly up!) those rolling hills of Kent, and show your support for the dedicated team at the Cambridge Breast Unit by making a donation."

A message from Ruchi Sinnatamby

"I will be cycling with Elena, Charles and Rob all of 300 miles from London to Paris in order to fundraise for our exciting new Breast Cancer Research Unit.

"I am a breast radiologist, and for the last 10 years I have been part of the team that works towards detecting breast cancer both at its very earliest stage, through high quality breast screening, and also accurately diagnosing those who come to us with symptoms. Together with my colleagues in pathology, surgery and oncology we are involved in all stages of a patient’s cancer journey, assuring them of the best possible personalised care, treatment and follow up.

"Improving individualised diagnosis and treatment is the goal of our research unit and the funds we raise will help provide our lovely new building with state of the art equipment to enable us to do just that. I have helped the Pink Rose Dinner campaign since its inception and cycling will be a very personal contribution to add to my fundraising effort. In years gone by my trusty (pink of course) bike has taken me up (and down) the Alps Maritime but since becoming a mum and a consultant it has been languishing in the garage. Now both it and I are up for the challenge – please support us and donate online."
