Raising money for Neurosciences

"This year I’ve decided to take on a range of events (list below) to raise money for the Neurosciences Department at Addenbrooke’s, who last year cared for my cousin, Michael following a major car accident, although sadly Michael passed away whilst at Addenbrooke’s the team on the Neurosciences Critical Care Unit (NCCU) made those hard days as easy as they could for my family.

"To help future patients in the NCCU and their families I am doing these events to help raise money for a portable CT scanner. CT scans are crucial to the care and outcome of patients and it can currently take a team of NCCU staff an hour to move a very sick, ventilated patient to the static scanner putting a strain on both the patient and their family. The portable scanner will allow head scans to be performed by the bedside, saving time and reducing risk.

I will be updating on progress as I go but for now the year looks a bit like this:

January 27th – Winter Tough (www.toughguy.co.uk)
Done. I came 435th in 1hr 27mins (only 27mins behind the winner) out of the 3000 that actually finished. Damn it was cold, never again!

Spring/Summer – Fancy Dress Friday
Done. After a few beers one evening this seemed a good idea but once this site hit £200 I agreed to wear any outfit that was pulled out of a hat all day at work in London, unfortunately for me the outfit was a mini-skirt and fishnets!

June 15th – The Dragon Ride (www.dragonride.co.uk)
Done. I joined about 3000 other cyclists on a 180km bike race over the hills and valleys of South Wales. Finished in 7hrs 41mins

July 27th – Summer Tough Guy (www.toughguy.co.uk)

September 14th – London Duathlon (www.thelondonduathlon.co.uk)
10km run, 20km bike, 5km run – what better way to spend a Sunday morning, last years winner did 1hr 23, last person to finish did 3hr 12

October 5th – Great North Run – (www.greatrun.org)
13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields
